Center Board Member Honored for Outstanding Volunteer Service

POMPANO BEACH, FL (5.13.09) – Broward Children’s Center Board Member Elaine Appel has been awarded the 2009 Golden Choices Award for Everyday Heroes by Governor Charlie Crist for her decades of volunteer service.
Elaine received the award at the Department of Elder Affairs for the State of Florida’s annual volunteer celebration in St. Petersburg, FL.
Appel was honored for her advocacy and support of children in Florida, particularly those with special needs. Ms. Appel is a Guardian ad Litem and a founding and active board member of H.A.N.D.Y, and a longtime Board member of the Broward Children’s Center Foundation.
“Elaine is an example for all of us and we are thrilled she has been recognized by the state of Florida for her efforts,” said Marjorie Evans, CEO of Broward Children’s Center. “She is truly an inspiration.”
For more than 38 years, Broward Children’s Center has been providing medical, educational, and advocacy services to infants, children, and young adults with special needs.
