Inclusive Infant Room Opens

POMPANO BEACH, FL (8.04.08)- As any parent knows, finding the best childcare fit for your newborn is a daunting task, especially if that child has special needs.  On Friday, August 4th parents in Broward will have a chance to end that search and send their children to a cutting edge inclusive Infant Care Program.

The latest addition to Broward Children’s Center’s inclusive health and education services, the Infant Care Program seeks to provide high quality inclusive child care to infants in a setting tailored to the specific requirements of children with special needs.

Children aged 6 weeks to 12 months old are eligible to attend the program, which also offers the opportunity for them to transition to a new Toddler Program, designed specifically to ensure continuity of care.

The Fort Lauderdale-based program will provide a home-like environment to infants with special health care needs who require expert pediatric medical, educational, and therapeutic care. Infants will be cared for by certified Broward County teachers and teacher’s assistants with a low 1:4 ratio to ensure vital individual attention.

Broward Children’s Center South Preschool Director, Jill Cerchione said the opening of the program will not only address a community need for at-risk infant child care, but will serve as the pilot program for two additional Broward Children’s Center infant programs set to open in the coming year.

“It is such an exiting project because not only are many families searching for high quality child care for their special needs child, but with a tightening economy more and more parents need to rejoin the workforce sooner after the birth of a child,” Cerchione said. “A major emphasis of this program is to give those children that often need specialized care an emotionally secure and intellectually engaging setting full of love and warmth.”

For more than 37 years, Broward Children’s Center has been providing medical, educational, and advocacy services to infants, children, and young adults with special needs.
