POMPANO BEACH FL (10-18-07) – The Sun Sentinel Children’s Fund has awarded $10,000 to Broward Children’s Center to support Recreational Therapy for children with special needs.
This initiative will see 20 children and adolescents living at the Center’s Pediatric Skilled Nursing Facility and two Group Homes experience 22 trips to a wide range of venues and events.
The program is designed to overcome the physical, logistical, and social barriers that often deprive children with special needs access to cultural and learning opportunities easily available to their typically developing peers. Each trip fulfills specific stimulation, educational, and recreational needs of children challenged with profound physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
“These experiences are critical to the healthy development of children and allow them to experience the world and the community around them,” said Center CEO, Marjorie Evans. “With this grant the Sun Sentinel has recognized that quality of life is not simply measured by one’s physical wellbeing, but also through the everyday experiences that promote growth and independence.”
The Sun-Sentinel Children's Fund is a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation. The McCormick Tribune Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to making life better for our children, communities and country.
