Pompano Beach, Fl. – Broward Children’s Center has been awarded a $15,000 Sapphire Award from the Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida for its improvement of community health.

“The Sapphire Award recognizes and rewards community health programs that have demonstrated excellence, success, and high merit,” said Susan Towler, Executive Director, Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida. “The Award’s recognition of effective initiatives is meant to promote greater and more lasting support for improved services and systems that can be sustained over time.”

The honor was presented to the Center at The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida’s inaugural awards ceremony in Orlando, which saw the Foundation bestow a total of $375,000 to Florida nonprofit organizations.

“This award is very gratifying because it recognizes the Center’s success in improving the health of those we serve,” said Broward Children’s Center CEO, Marjorie Evans. “Our core mission remains improving the health and quality of life of those with special needs and this award will help us to do that.”

Established in 1971, Broward Children’s Center has grown from a one room nonprofit serving a handful of children to a 12 program organization that provides services to more than 600 children and families with special needs.

These services include pediatric skilled nursing, residential group homes, inclusive preschools, primary care clinic and prescribed pediatric extended care. The Center’s outpatient services deliver respite care, home health, physical, occupational and speech therapy as well as a mobile primary care and immunization van.
