POMPANO BEACH FL – Images of children with special needs donated by photographer Jennifer Pappas will launch a new education campaign by local nonprofit, Broward Children’s Center.
The images will be used to educate the public about the Center’s medical, educational, respite, and therapeutic nonprofit services available to at-risk children. These programs include preschools; a mobile medical clinic; sub-acute skilled nursing; home health; respite services; physical, occupational, and speech therapy services.
“Providing these programs is only one piece of the puzzle,” said Center spokesperson, Thor Barraclough. “To really reach the most at-risk and underserved children in our community, we need to let their caregivers know how to access these programs and Jennifer’s images will help us do that.”
Broward Children’s Center CEO, Marjorie Evans said many of the clients the Center served are from low-income and non-English speaking families, making visual and culturally sensitive information key to reaching out to families in need.
“Jennifer’s images are universal, allowing us to better connect with parents, health professionals, potential supporters, and others living in our multicultural community,” said Evans. “These photographs are not only beautiful, but they break down barriers and introducing children with disabilities to the public and paint a real picture of what we do here at the Center to nurture them.” said Marjorie Evans, CEO of BCC.
Evans said the donation of professional services, such as photography allowed the Center to plow every dollar it receives back into direct care services. Many of the photos taken by Jennifer Pappas can be found on the Center’s website, at www.bcckids.org.
“I just hope that through my photos I was able to demonstrate to others, the wonderful work that the Center is doing for these kids,” said Pappas. “If just one photo of the hundreds I shot is able to help a child get needed help, or encourage one person to support the Center, the way my visit to the Center touched me, then my work is done.”
For more than 30 years Broward Children’s Center has been providing medical, educational, therapeutic and advocacy services to infants, children and young adults with special needs.
