POMPANO BEACH, FL (7-22-04) Broward Children’s Center and the Pompano Beach Air Fair have announced a new partnership that will see the annual Miles for Smiles charity walk become a featured event of the 6th Annual Pompano Beach Air Fair held October 16th - 17th.

The partnership will see Miles for Smiles funds bolstered by a percentage of the Air Fair’s ticket sales. These funds will help the nonprofit Center deliver critical medical, educational and therapeutic services to infants, children and young adults with special needs.

"This new partnership promises to take Miles for Smiles to the next level, elevating our community profile and raising event fundraising potential," said Broward Children’s Center CEO, Marjorie Evans. "The support of the Air Fair and producer Bob Tash will increase our service capabilities and that translates into healthier, happier infants and children with special needs."

The Miles for Smiles walk will be held at 8:30am Saturday, October 16th and will see walkers circle the Pompano Beach Air Park and enjoy post event refreshments and free access to the Air Fair. More than 200 people are expected to participate, including local schoolchildren, firefighters, community groups and youth with special health care needs.

All walk proceeds will support Broward Children’s Center, a nonprofit organization providing medical, developmental and therapeutic services for children with physical and cognitive disabilities. The event starts at 8:30am sharp, check in begins at 8am. Collectable t-shirts will be given out to the first 200 walkers who register. Walkers will receive free giveaways and have the chance to win prizes; all while helping local children with special medical needs.

The route will take walkers 4.2 miles around Pompano Beach Air Park, located at 1101 North Federal Highway in Pompano Beach, half way between Atlantic Boulevard and Copans Road. Walking teams, rollerbladers, those with strollers, and wheelchair participants are all welcome. Drinks and support services will be provided along the route.

On completing the event, participants can enjoy free access to the Air Fair’s more than 50 aircraft displays and performances, car and motorcycle show, military displays, children’s rides and local food booths. For information on how to sign up and help local youth please contact Giselle Barragan at 954.943.7336 Ext. 103, or email giselleb@bcckids.org

For more than 30 years, Broward Children’s Center has been providing medical, educational, therapeutic and advocacy services to infants, children and young adults with special needs.
