CBishop Leo Frade Blesses Intergenerational Preschool
POMPANO BEACH FL – The Rt. Rev. Leo Frade, Bishop of Southeast Florida has visited Broward Children’s Center’s new Building Bridges Preschool at St. Martin’s to bless an intergenerational care initiative.
The new Preschool seeks to mingle community seniors with preschool children to encourage mentoring, education and nurturing across generations. The concept will see seniors and children work together on daily activities, including literacy programming.
The preschool is the result of a collaboration between local nonprofit Broward Children’s Center and St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, and is a response to rising demand for preschool care and a large population of senior citizens in the area.
“We’re honored by Bishop Frade’s blessing and its recognition of not only the more than 18 months of hard work to open the doors to our new preschool, but also the contribution it will make to those we serve,” said Reverend Bernard Pecaro, St. Martin’s Rector.
Bishop Frade will visited the school, located at 140 S.E. 28th Avenue in Pompano Beach at 11:30a.m. on Sunday, May, 7th. Members of the St. Martin’s congregation, Broward Children’s Center, John Knox Village, and local community members attended the event.
“We expect this facility to be a model in community childcare involvement,” said Broward Children’s Center’s Preschool Director, Jacqueline Mogavero. “It allows us to provide high quality childcare to 50 local 3 - 5 year olds, who will benefit greatly from nurturing interaction with community seniors.”
For more than 35 years Broward Children’s Center has been providing medical, educational, therapeutic and advocacy services to infants, children and young adults with special needs.
