Miles for Smiles Taking Steps to Rebuild a Home for Disabled Children

POMPANO BEACH, FL (10.20.09) Pompano Beach residents can help rebuild a fire-damaged home for children with profound disabilities just by taking a morning walk on Saturday, November 14th.

Participants can support Broward Children’s Center’s Miles for Smiles Walkathon which will help raise funds to rebuild a Group Home for profoundly disabled individuals and ensure they can stay together as a family.

The 6th Annual Miles for Smiles Walkathon will see hundreds of walkers circle the Pompano Beach Air Park and enjoy pre and post-event refreshments, classic car show, clowns, music, and entertainment at the Goodyear Blimp Base. Entry donation is just $20.

“This year our community’s support is more important than ever because every cent raised will help fund our efforts to rebuild a safe and happy home that will keep a family of young people with special needs together,” said Broward Children’s Center CEO, Marjorie Evans.

The event starts at 9:00 am sharp, check in begins at 8:00 am. Walk T-shirts will be given to the first 200 walkers who register. All walkers will receive free gift bags and have the chance to win prizes all while helping the most at-risk children in our community.

The route will take walkers 4.2 miles around Pompano Beach Air Park, starting at the Goodyear Blimp Base located at 1500 NE 5th Avenue, halfway between Atlantic Boulevard and Copans Road. Walking teams, runners, rollerbladers, those with strollers, and wheelchair participants are all welcome. Drink and snack stations will be provided along the route.
