Volunteers make a lasting impact in the lives of the infants, children, and young adults at Broward Children’s Center. You can play a vital role in helping us fulfill our mission to deliver the highest quality of care, and life, to those we serve.

How To Get Involved

Whether you are a student, parent, retiree, snowbird, school, or corporation wishing to give back to your community, Broward Children’s Center has a volunteer opportunity to meet your interests, skills, and schedule. On behalf of the nearly 1,200 children and families we serve each year, we say “thanks” and invite you to find your own volunteer opportunity.

We appreciate the support, generosity, and talents of our volunteers to help fulfill the BCC mission. We encourage
our volunteers to share their skills and talents with our children and families through a wide variety of volunteer
activities:

  • ​Assist with special classroom activities (art, cooking, music)
  • Read to our children
  • Serve at one or more events
  • Assist with administrative tasks
  • Hold a fundraiser

Students from all over South Florida are learning to give and seeing what a difference they can make in our local
community, and all over the world. As a student, we know you are busy, and we appreciate your time and talents.

  • Set up weekly or monthly volunteer days at one of our facilities
  • Become a reading buddy with a classroom or individual child or young/adult
  • Become an academic tutor/mentor
  • Host a community drive collecting items from our Wish List such as food, diapers, toiletries, or toys
  • Adopt a classroom, child, or family for the holidays
  • DIY – think up your own project (all ideas are encouraged and welcomed!)

​Students must be over the age of 16 to volunteer without adult supervision.

Service hours are available, if needed.

Student Volunteers must be 16 years of age or be accompanied by an adult while volunteering. Each Student under the age of 18 must complete the following required forms prior to volunteering:

Upon receipt of all of the forms, we will arrange for a personal interview and tour of our facility.

Broward Children’s Center strongly believes that working together with corporations and like-minded organizations, that we can create an even bigger impact within the community. We have several opportunities for businesses to get involved and help make a greater difference in the lives of those we serve:

  • ​Participate in your company’s matching gift programs
  • Host a community drive collecting items from our Wish List such as food, diapers, toiletries, or toys
  • Serve at a BCC event
  • Assist with various activities such as reading, arts and crafts, cooking, music, etc. with our children.

Volunteer FAQ

What is the volunteer procedure?

All completed documents should be returned via email to volunteer@bcckids.org or mail to Volunteer Coordinator, 200 SE 19th Avenue, Pompano Beach, Florida, 33060.​ Upon receipt of all of the forms, we will arrange for your fingerprinting, a personal interview and tour of our facility.

  • If the Volunteer has already received a Level 2 Background Screening by another agency, it may be submitted for review by the Human Resource Department. If approved, it may not be necessary to be rescreened.
  • All medical and background screening costs is at the Volunteers own expense.​
  • Once all the Volunteer Documents are complete and reviewed by the Volunteer Coordinator, the Volunteer will be required to attend a short orientation.
  • At the orientation, the Volunteer will receive a t-shirt which they are required to wear each time they volunteer.
  • Volunteers must schedule their volunteer hours with the appropriate BCC personnel through email. Contact information for the appropriate BCC personnel will be provided at Orientation.​
  • All volunteers must sign-in and out in the Volunteer Log located at the front desk each time they volunteer.
How old do I need to be to volunteer without an adult?

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent.

If I am under the age of 18, do I need to undergo a background check and have a physical conducted?

Yes. All volunteers working individually and directly with the children/young adults served in our programs must undergo a background screening and have a physical conducted.

Do I need to undergo a background check and physical?

Yes. All volunteers over the age of 16, must undergo a Level II Background Screening and Physical at their own expense.

Do I have to pay for the background check and medical exam?

Yes. All applicable fees are the responsibility of the volunteer.

What types of volunteer opportunities can I sign up for?

Broward Children’s Center has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities to meet everyone’s interests, skills and schedule.

These include: Becoming a member of one of our committees, special event volunteers, helping with maintenance & beautification projects, working directly with our infants, children and young adults, assisting with administrative tasks, hosting a fundraiser or organizing a toy, food or clothing drive.

When can I volunteer?

Broward Children’s Center offers flexible volunteer schedules. Volunteer Hours available:

  • Monday thru Friday – 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday – 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
What happens after all the required volunteer documents are completed, submitted and approved?

Once all the required paperwork is complete, a volunteer is required to attend an orientation with the Volunteer Coordinator to review the organization’s policies and procedures.

Who do I arrange my volunteer schedule with?

Once you have been approved, you will be given the contact information or one of our Recreational Therapists or Preschool Directors. You will be required to email them and must receive confirmation of your volunteer time and date. No volunteer should show up unscheduled and/or without confirmation.

If I am a student, will service hours be given as needed?

Broward Children’s Center’s Volunteer Coordinator will be happy to track and sign for student service hours required by the Broward County School District and/or other educational programs.

Can I create my own fundraiser?

Broward Children’s Center welcomes your support by hosting a personal fundraiser. All fundraisers must be approved by our Development Department to ensure that they comply with our mission and guidelines.

 

Development Department staff will work closely with you to ensure a successful fundraiser.

Can I create my own DIY Volunteer Project for Broward Children’s Center?

Broward Children’s Center encourages ideas from students and members of the community. All DIY projects should be submitted in writing to the Volunteer Coordinator.
